Hopie Perez claimed the first Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week award of the season with her play over the dates of Feb. 2-8, while her teammate, Ashley Oldham, was recognized as the RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the same dates.
Perez, a freshman shortstop from Weatherford, Texas, went 5-for-10 at the plate as TWU opened the season with four losses at Texas A&M International University. She was 3-for-3 in the season opener with a double as the Lady Rams lost to TAMIU, 7-2. She closed out the series by going 2-for-3 with an RBI in a 6-5 defeat.
Oldham, a junior right-hander from Watauga, Texas, suffered two of the Lady Rams' losses over the weekend but only allowed four earned runs in 13 innings of work. She recorded four strikeouts and allowed only 10 hits.
Texas Wesleyan University’s Shawna Henderson and Ashley Oldham have been named Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week. Henderson, a freshman center fielder from Weatherford, TX, set the table for the Lady Rams in a double-header sweep of Louisiana State University-Alexandria. The leadoff hitter reached base with six singles in seven plate appearances while scoring four runs and stealing one base. Henderson went 3-for-4 in the opener before going 3-for-3 and scoring two of Texas Wesleyan’s runs in a 3-2 second-game victory.
Oldham, a junior pitcher from Watauga, TX, picked up wins in both ends of Texas Wesleyan's match-up with LSU-Alexandria. She tossed a five-hit complete-game shutout with four strikeouts for an 8-0 victory in the opener. She returned in the second game to record the final two outs to secure the Lady Rams' 3-2 win.
Oldham was a repeat winner, taking the award last week along with teammate Hopie Perez. Perez, a freshman shortstop from Weatherford, TX, went 3-for-3 with a double in her collegiate debut and hit .500 (5-for-10) in her first week of action
For the third time this season, Texas Wesleyan University’s Ashley Oldham has been named Red River Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Oldham, a junior pitcher from Watauga, TX, appeared in four of the Lady Rams' six games in the Cowtown Classic this weekend. She collected a victory in her only start with one earned run and seven hits allowed en route to a 5-4 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Oldham recorded an ERA of 2.80 on the week with 10 strikeouts in 20 total innings of work. Texas Wesleyan is now 5-7 overall.
Texas Wesleyan University’s Christina Kelley and Ashley Tarrant have been named Red River Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week. Kelley, a freshman first baseman from Aledo, TX, went 9-for-15 at the plate as the Lady Rams won all four of their games last week. She opened the week with a double, two RBI and three runs scored in a 9-3 stomping of Hillsdale Baptist (OK). Kelley then closed by going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored against conference opponent, Texas College. She accounted for seven RBI on the week as the Lady Rams stepped to 2-0 in the RRAC and 9-7 overall.
Tarrant, a sophomore pitcher from Martin's Mill, TX, earned two wins and collected 25 strikeouts in 12.2 innings of work. She did not allow a run in three games while surrendering just six hits and a walk. Tarrant tossed 5.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn a victory against Hillsdale and posted a complete-game shutout of Texas College for an 11-0 decision. She struck out 13 TC hitters including nine straight at one point.

She tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Lady Rams defeated Langston University (OK), 5-0, before notching a complete-game two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts for an 8-0 win over Texas College. She took a 5-2 loss against NCAA Division II opponent, Hardin-Simmons University (TX), on Friday when she allowed just three earned runs
